Many years ago, Bean Goose Barn served as the stables and hayloft on a busy working farm in the peaceful hamlet of Stathe on the Somerset Levels. In more recent years it’s been lovingly converted and is now a very charming holiday house that sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms. Outside in the enclosed garden there’s a quirky wood fired hot tub, just the place to enjoy the fresh air and starry night skies. Bean Goose Barn has such welcoming, gentle feels and everything you need for a wonderful stay; that’s why it’s perfect for family holidays, for a country break with friends and their children, or for low-key family celebrations with the people you love most in the world.

All around is the open countryside of the Somerset Levels, an area that has a beauty of its own. The low-lying pastures are flooded in the winter, a network of drovers' paths and rhynes (pronounced reens) criss-cross the landscape; it’s a haven for wildlife, especially birds, so you’d be wise to bring your binoculars. Withies have been grown in this area for centuries, and put to good use in the basket making trade; just up the road at Coates English Willow Centre you can see how it’s done and even have a go yourself. While you’re there take a stroll around the nature reserve, rounded off with coffee and cake in the café. A little further on at Stoke St Gregory you can pop into The Royal Oak – not just a village pub but also a café and shop, all run by people from the local community.  Have a wander along the banks of the River Tone to Burrow Mump; climb up to the ruined church at the top and you’ll be astounded at the far-reaching views. When you come back down find a table at The King Alfred Inn and have a hearty pub lunch.

Pootle over to Muchelney to visit the hallowed abbey ruins; pop your head in the church, look up at the wagon roof to see the colourful angels painted there in the 17th century. Spend a day exploring Taunton, Somerset’s county town; browse the shops, visit the Museum of Somerset, have a barrel of laughs on the high ropes and low ropes at Vivary Adventure Centre.

For days by the sea head over to the Jurassic Coast, less than an hour away; the beaches are varied and each has its own charm. Lyme Regis is one of the most popular and it’s easy to see why; take the kids to the Marine Aquarium and Dinosaurland Fossil Museum, have a Rib Ride around the bay or catch a mackerel fishing trip out to sea and cast a line. At Beer you can take a family trip to Pecorama or Beer Quarry Caves, at Branscombe it’s nice to sit and watch the tide come in at The Sea Shanty Beach Café.

You’ll find plenty of inspiration for days out when you stay at Bean Goose Barn; there’s Haynes Motor Museum, Fleet Air Arm Museum, Barrington Court and Montacute House. Discover mystic Glastonbury with its beautiful ruined Abbey and Chalice Well, or go to Wells and see the glorious cathedral and the Bishop's Palace where the swans that live in the moat pull on a bell when it’s feeding time. Find a cosy country pub to stop by for something to eat; the Halfway House at Pitney is good, and closer to home are The Bird in Hand at North Curry and The Firehouse at Curry Rivel where they do excellent wood fired pizzas. Come and enjoy a spell of luxury togetherness at Bean Goose Barn, pile the memory bank high.
