The Granary is set on a small complex at the foot of the Quantock Hills in Somerset; it was once a traditional grain barn on a busy working farm but now it's a luxury holiday house for large groups. This big holiday house is a great place to enjoy luxury togetherness with a big group of friends, for family holidays and celebrations, sophisticated hen weekends, and corporate hospitality or team building days. 9 ensuite bedrooms sleep 18 guests and there's room for another 6 at an extra charge per person. Inside is spacious, light and airy, with a huge open-plan living space, a games area and a private indoor pool; outside there's a hot tub, outdoor kitchen, BBQ lodge and play area.
You might not even feel like going out at all once you've settled in, but if you do, you'll find plenty to see and do. Go and explore the beautiful wilds of the Quantock Hills, a land of rugged heaths, steep wooded combes and picturesque villages with friendly pubs where you can have a natter and try the local brew. Climb up through the sun dappled woods at Holford Combe, walk along the ridge and then come back down to the village and have lunch at The Plough. Have a ramble across Aisholt Common or take a picnic to Ramscombe Great Wood and walk it off with a hike over to Cothelstone Hill. Just up the road is Nether Stowey where you can have a stroll around and visit Coleridge Cottage, where the romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge lived and wrote some of his most famous works.
Discover the diverse beaches of the Somerset coast; go to Kilve to hunt for fossils, then wander up the lane to the Chantry Tea Gardens for big fat scones with lashings of jam and cream; at East Quantoxhead you can walk from the duckpond out to the clifftop and down the steps to the windswept bay where the wave cut platforms are backed by incredible striated cliffs. Play on the sands at Blue Anchor or Minehead, especially good if you travel there by steam train with the West Somerset Railway; climb on board at Bishops Lydeard, see working flour mill whilst you're there and stop for homemade cake at Daisy Cottage Tea Rooms.
Have an Exmoor excursion; explore the national park and see wild ponies grazing on the moors, stroll along the lush river valley at Watersmeet or Tarr Steps, soak up the charm of Dunster and the fairytale castle that stands high above the village, enjoy a family trip to Exmoor Zoo or to Exmoor Owl & Hawk Centre. If riding the waves is your thing it's not far to Croyde or Woolacombe on the North Devon coast where you'll find some of the best surfing beaches in the UK. If you prefer a cityscape head up to Bristol or Bath for day spent seeing the sights.
On your way back make a short diversion for hearty homemade food at The Rising Sun at West Bagborough, The Lamb at Spaxton or The Farmer's Arms at Combe Florey. If it's a balmy night you might prefer to have a barbecue on the patio at The Granary, a splash in the pool, a soak in the hot tub, or a few games of pool before you turn in for a restful night's sleep. In the morning get up and pop just around the corner to Kitchen at Quantock Lakes for breakfast. Relax, have fun, repeat.
