Bean Goose Barn once served as the stables and hay barn on a busy working farm on the Somerset Levels; this rustic red brick building has since been sympathetically transformed into a charming and well-equipped holiday house that sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms. This makes a wonderful place to stay for a larger family, for two families with young children, or for a multi-generational break in the country. Bean Goose Barn is also great for when you’ve got something very special to celebrate but want to keep it low-key and spend it with the people you love most in the world – say, a 25th wedding anniversary or Grandpa’s 70th birthday’.
The entrance to Bean Goose Barn is where the original barn doors would have been but these have been replaced with a full height modern glass version so the natural light pours in. Step inside to the open plan kitchen/dining room with Shaker style units and a big wooden table that comfortably seats 8. At the far end of the room is Bedroom 3 which has zip and link beds (super king or twin) and an outlook over the garden.
To the right of the kitchen is Bedroom 4, which also has zip and link beds and windows overlooking the garden. Right next door is a very stylish shower room with a large walk-in rainfall shower. From the kitchen/dining room an industrial style staircase leads straight up to the open plan living room which has far-reaching views across the Somerset countryside. The furnishings are modern yet it’s still a lovely cosy room with ambient lighting, a TV and for those chillier days and nights, a user-friendly woodburner. To one end of the room a door opens to the parking area – very convenient for bringing your bags in if you’re sleeping upstairs.
Bedroom 1 is at the far end of the living room and has a king size bed and a door that opens to steps leading down to the parking area. Bedroom 2 is to the left of the living room and has zip and link beds. Next to it there’s a bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. The very current interiors at Bean Goose Barn have been very well chosen and are a contrast to the centuries old essential character – but it works and the result is a holiday home that has ample room for 8 and has a very gentle and welcoming feel.
At the front of the barn there’s an enclosed garden with a lawn, a paved patio with a gas barbecue and outdoor furniture, and a quirky wood fired hot tub.
