In its former guise Swallows Rest was a farmhouse, but after a very considered renovation, it offers gorgeous group accommodation for 8. Snooze space comes in the form of 4 spacious ensuite bedrooms, all yours and only yours are a games room, indoor swim spa, hot tub, BBQ lodge and play area for children.

Tucked away on a private lane with views over open fields and hills, Swallows Rest is so peaceful – a far cry from the crazy pace of city life. Forget what’s going on in the world, switch off your devices and enjoy a stay deep in the Somerset countryside; here’s where life slows down and you can truly unwind. It’s a lovely place to stay and enjoy for family and friends holidays and celebrations, and for sophisticated hen weekends.

You see, major routes are within easy reach and there’s a train station in Taunton, just a very short drive away, so having days out is easy. You don’t necessarily need to drive anywhere; take an amble through the fields to the neighbouring village, grab some essentials from the shop, have a drink at the pub and wander back. Go to the Hatch Inn just over a mile away, eat in or get fish and chips from the visiting chip cart.

And Taunton – it’s Somerset’s county town so go have a mooch. Stroll around Vivary Park, stop for a game of mini golf or to take on the high ropes challenge. Browse the shops, especially the more quirky ones in Bath Place, have lunch at The Cosy Club or go across the road to Brazz. If afternoon tea’s your thing, the Art Deco tea room at Castle Bow will be right up your street. Look around the museum, see the giant’s shoe and the Roman mosaic found on farmland nearby, have a night out ten pin bowling or watching your favourite movie at the multiscreen cinema.

Try cider tasting at Burrow Hill Cider, take a leisurely boat trip along the canal at North Newton, come back and follow the Somerset Space Walk. Have a day trip to the beach – it’s less than an hour to Lyme Regis where you can go fossil hunting, mackerel fishing, and visit the Marine Aquarium or Dinosaurland Fossil Museum.

National Trust houses? Take your pick – Barrington Court, Montacute House and Lytes Cary Manor are within easy reach, Stourhead is a little further. Family days out? How about Wildwood Devon, Wookey Hole, or on board the West Somerset Railway where you can ride a steam train to the beach at Minehead?
