A peaceful and secluded setting, first rate group accommodation and a noticeably gentle ambience make Perys Hill a very special place to stay for holidays and celebrations with friends and family. There’s snooze space for 12, with a gorgeously renovated farmhouse sleeping 8 and just a couple of minutes stroll away, a separate cottage for 4. 2 optional extra beds mean there’s room for 2 more children aged 12 or under at no additional charge. The large grounds merge seamlessly with the Somerset countryside, full of fresh air and tranquillity; there are woodlands and streams, a shepherd’s hut for work or recreation, and a play area for the little ones. Built into the hillside is a stunning indoor pool giving views that roll out across the countryside forever.

You’ll feel like you have your own perfect world at Perys Hill, far away from the push and shove; right on the doorstep are footpaths and trails through the woods and fields, close by there’s a nature reserve to discover, rich in flora and fauna. In the village there’s a very good gastro pub and just a few miles away is the little town of Wiveliscombe with independent shops and local markets to browse; good for pizzas is The Bear Inn with a micro-brewery out the back.

If you fancy a day out Exmoor National Park is within easy reach, offering so much to see; climb to the summit of Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on the moors, stroll along the lush river valley at Watersmeet, ride the Victorian Cliff railway from Lynton to Lynmouth, take the young ‘uns to Exmoor Zoo. For days by the sea, board the steam train with the West Somerset Railway and pootle through the countryside to the Somerset Coast. Alight at Minehead or Blue Anchor for a few hours on the sands, stop at Dunster to see the medieval castle on the hill, go hunting for fossils at Kilve.

If you go down to Tiverton you can take a leisurely trip along the Grand Western Canal onboard one of the few remaining horse-drawn barges in the country; if you prefer to go at your own pace hire Canadian canoes and take to the waters. Land lovers might enjoy an amble along the towpath looking out for the wildlife as they go – ducks dabbling, swans majestically gliding, herons taking flight, and the sudden turquoise flash of a kingfisher.

Those with a thing for historic houses won’t be disappointed with Knightshayes or Killerton (NT); both have glorious gardens, admirable architecture and huge parklands to walk in. See the carved angels at Cleeve Abbey and soak up the incredible atmosphere of what’s left of the Cistercian Monastery.

We suspect the younger members of your large group will be perfectly happy at Perys Hill with so much room to roam, a shepherd’s hut, play area, pool and games room; but if they want a day out there’s plenty of choice within easy reach – Tropiquaria Wildlife Park, Wildwood Escot and Doniford Farm Park are all good, or take them to Flip Out Wellington for a bounce on the trampolines. Wimbleball Lake is great for outdoor activities like watersports, archery and high ropes, go to Dunkeswell for go-karting, or to the airfield to watch the planes and parachutes come and go. Wherever you go, whatever you do, even if you go nowhere and do nothing but relax at Perys Hills, it will be a time to remember; this is so much more than a place to stay, it’s a place you’ll fall in love with.
