Ramscombe is one of five timber-clad lodges on a small site at the foot of the Quantock Hills in Somerset. Inside is light and airy and stylishly modern, 6 ensuite bedrooms sleep 14 people, there's a huge open plan living space and across the patio, your very own indoor heated pool. Outside there's a boule court, a play area, and table tennis. With glorious countryside all around and plenty to see and do in the local area, Ramscombe is perfect for large group holidays in the West Country anytime of year; come for family holidays and celebrations, refined hen weekends and self-catering corporate breaks.

The Quantock Hills are a designated AONB; go and discover the rugged heaths, the steep wooded combes, the wide open fields and the hills that give you panoramic views across the landscape. See wild ponies grazing, watch red deer feed, climb to the summit of Wills Neck, the highest point in the hills, or pack a picnic and walk from Great Ramscombe Wood to Cothelstone Hill. Go down to Bishops Lydeard, climb aboard the steam train on the West Somerset Railway and enjoy an unhurried ride through the countryside to alight at the coast; go and make sandcastles at Blue Anchor or Minehead, have fish and chips on the quay at Watchet, stop off to see Dunster Castle, standing high on the hill above the medieval village.

There are good beaches on the Jurassic Coast of Devon and Dorset, about an hour away. Spend a day at Lyme Regis where you can set out to sea on a mackerel fishing trip or take an exciting rib ride around the bay; play crazy golf, stroll out along the harbour to the Marine Aquarium, go and see the exhibits at Dinosaurland Fossil Museum. Branscombe is gorgeous, a picturesque village where thatched cottages line the lane that slopes down to the sea; have a bite to eat at The Sea Shanty Beach Café after a bracing walk on the South West Cost Path. Take the family to Beer where you can pootle round the gardens on a miniature train, or go to the awe-inspiring underground caverns at Beer Quarry Caves; round off your trip with an early dinner in the clifftop garden of The Anchor Inn.

Explore Taunton, the county town; find out its history at The Museum of Somerset, take a stroll through Vivary Park and play on the high ropes at Vivary Golf and Adventure Centre. Have a day in Exeter and see the cathedral and underground passages, go down to the quay where you can hire paddle boards and kayaks and take to the waters of the old ship canal or the tranquil Exe Estuary. Exmoor National Park is great for an excursion; explore the heather clad moors and lush river valleys, amble along the river at Watersmeet, go and see the animals at Exmoor Zoo or the birds at Exmoor Owl and Hawk Centre, then wind up in a tea shop for a traditional cream tea.

When you get back to Ramscombe, get the barbecue going if the sun is shining; there's plenty of room on the patio for dinner alfresco and whilst the sausages are sizzling you can have a game of outdoor table tennis or boules, or take a dip in the pool; children can let off steam on the trampoline or play equipment. If you fancy eating out, within a very short drive are some very good pubs - The Rising Sun at West Bagborough, The Farmers Arms at Combe Florey, and The Blue Ball Inn at Triscombe. Bring it on, happy days to look forward to.
