Take the days slowly, feel the pace drop as you go off exploring what’s on the doorstep; wander through the woodlands and stop to play on the log swings, make camps, set out your sarnies and sausage rolls for a hearty picnic.

Amble through the meadows, paddle in the stream, and don’t forget to stop and stare because the far-reaching views are breathtaking and if you’re lucky, you might spot deer at feed. The chances are you’ll be so content that going out won’t even be mentioned – but if it is, there’s a lot to see and do round here.

Embrace more of the great outdoors with a big adventure in the Quantock Hills or Exmoor National Park; climb the coombes, walk the lush river valleys, look out for wild ponies grazing on the heather clad heaths. Go roving to the coast, getting there by heritage steam train on the West Somerset Railway; alight at Blue Anchor to build sandcastles, find shells on the beach at Dunster then head to the village and visit the medieval castle on the hill.

While away an afternoon by the canal in Tiverton, take a leisurely ride on a horse drawn barge or go boating; round it off with a cream tea in the canal side tea gardens, or a drink on board the Duck’s Ditty Floating Café Bar. Take a family trip to Tropiquaria to say hello to the animals, have fun on the high ropes at Vivary Golf & Adventure Centre in Taunton, go and see the giant’s shoes and the Roman mosaic in the Museum of Somerset while you’re in town.
