Huxhay dates back to Edwardian times when it was built as a hunting lodge – but no more. Now it’s a luxury large group holiday house that sleeps 23 over the main house and a beautifully renovated annexe that in its former guise was a hayloft. Interiors are divine, the gardens are gorgeous, with a large outdoor dining terrace that has a kitchen, changing room and 12 person hot tub.

Set at the southern gateway to Exmoor National Park, Huxhay stands in large private grounds on the edge of Dulverton, a quiet market town that still retains a timeless and traditional charm. The views from the house stretch out over the wooded hillsides and rolling Somerset countryside. Inside is eclectically stylish with professionally designed interiors, there’s heaps of space to gather together so it’s a fantastic house for holidays and celebrations with friends and family, for refined hen weekends and corporate breaks that will leave a lasting impression.

A taste of Exmoor life awaits you, so go and explore if you can drag yourselves away. Stroll into town for lunch at the Bridge Inn, to buy freshly baked bread and local meats; have dinner at Woods Wine bar or Tongdam Thai Restaurant.

Have a big adventure, taking in all the Exmoor beauty spots; cross the ancient clapper bridge at Tarr Steps, amble along the river at Watersmeet and tuck into cream teas in the tea room, puff your way to the summit of Dunkery Beacon – it’s the highest point in the whole park so the reward is panoramic views that roll on for miles. See the cutest cottages at Selworthy, all low slung thatch and chocolate boxey, climb up through the cliffs to teeny tiny Culbone Church, then hang out at Porlock Weir just to watch the world go by.

Visit some of the award-winning attractions within the Park; stop at Dunster to browse the village shops, have a tour of the medieval castle (NT) that stands on the hill and wander along the leat to the restored working water mill. Go over to the coast and ride the Victorian cliff railway from Lynton to Lynmouth, look out for feral goats grazing at the Valley of Rocks, take the kids to Exmoor Zoo, and wherever you go, keep an eye out for herds of red deer and Exmoor ponies roaming free.

Spend an afternoon at The Grand Western Canal Country Park in Tiverton where you can hire Canadian rowing boats or sit back for a ride on one of the few remaining horse drawn barges in the country. And if surfing’s your thing, go ride the waves on the North Devon coast, at Croyde or Woolacombe – you can be there in less than an hour!

Huxhay is a big happy place. Come and make it yours.
