If browsing around towns and cities is your thing, head over to Taunton and visit the Museum of Somerset, stroll around the park, book a session on the high ropes at Vivary Golf and Adventure Centre. It won’t take long to get to Exeter where you can have a shopping spree, see the glorious cathedral and have a guided tour of the medieval Underground Passages.

Set out from Sampford View for a walk through the fields or explore the Blackdown Hills close by. Puff your way up to the top of Culm Beacon where the views are spectacular, then wander back down to the Culm Valley Inn for a pub lunch, Stroll up through the beech woods to Wellington Monument, followed by a bite to eat at The Beambridge Inn on the way home. Take a trip to Exmoor National Park where there’s so much to discover; hotspots are Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on the moors, the riverside walk at Watersmeet, the ancient clapper bridge at Tarr Steps, and the achingly beautiful Lorna Doone Valley. Say hello to the animals at Exmoor Zoo, see the spooky dungeons at Dunster Castle. The Quantock Hills are worth exploring too, with peaceful villages, sun dappled coombes and high ridges where wild ponies graze on the heaths.

Spend the day by the sea, playing on the sands at Blue Anchor or Minehead, travel there by steam train on the West Somerset Railway. Otherwise, drive over to the Jurassic Coast for beach days; go to Beer, a charming little fishing village, or to picturesque Branscombe where the main street is lined with centuries old cottages. At Lyme Regis you can visit Dinosaurland Fossil Museum and the tiny marine aquarium at the end of the harbour.

Closer to Sampford View is Sheppy’s Cider, where you can take a tour of the factory and the apple orchards, stroll around the lakes and follies at Hestercombe House & Gardens, go to Tiverton for a ride along the Grand Western Canal at Tiverton on a horse-drawn barge.
