It’s hard to imagine that way back in Victorian times Dallybank started life as two river workers’ cottages. The layout, the wonderfully warm and welcoming feels, you’d think it’s always been like this. It’s a very lovely place to stay for your family holiday because the setting is idyllic and there’s something for all ages. The tinies will be so content in the play room and the outdoor play area, older children will love the games room, grown ups will appreciate the hot tub, the space, and the River Tone gliding by at the back of the house.

Tucked away in a sleepy hamlet on the Somerset Levels, Dallybank is the kind of place where you wish you could stay forever. So you might well be more than happy to spend each moment of your holiday right here, just relishing the peace, loving being together.

But it’s good to go and explore the local area and you needn’t go far to find things to see and do. Stroll along the river to Burrow Mump, puff your way up to the ruined church at the top, and then amble back down for a pub lunch at The King Alfred Inn. Jump in the car and pootle up the lane to Coates English Willow where you can learn how the locals made their living in the withy trade; stay to watch basket weaving, walk around the nature trail, browse the shops in the courtyard, and round off your visit with tea and cake in the café.

You should pop into Langport for a browse around too; it’s a nice little town, with a vibrant atmosphere when the vintage market is on, and it’s nice to saunter along the River Parrett. You can take a trip on the Duchess of Cocklemoor, hire canoes and kayaks, or hire bikes and set off to explore the Levels at your own pace. Cycle out to Mucheleny to see the ancient abbey and then pop in the church – look up and you’ll see angels painted on the wagon roof.

Head into Taunton to mooch around the shops, take a wander down historic Bath Place and around Vivary Park where you can stop for a play on the high ropes course or for mini golf. Right in the middle of town you can have a very elegant afternoon tea at The Castle, on the outskirts there’s a bowling alley and a multi-screen cinema.

And a day by the sea? Why not? In less than an hour you can be on the Jurassic Coast! Go to Lyme Regis, lovely Lyme Regis, stroll along the promenade and out to the end of the harbour where there’s a Marine Aquarium and boat trips. See the fascinating collections and - get this – a 73kg lump of dinosaur dung at Dinosaurland Fossil Museum, idle away a few hours on the sandy beach, join a fossil hunt and then go fill your bellies at whichever café or restaurant takes your fancy – there are so many to choose from!

You see, beautiful days make beautiful memories, and that’s what family holidays at Dallybank are all about.
