Crowcombe is one of five timber clad lodges in a picturesque combe at the foot of the Quantock Hills in Somerset. Bright, airy and modern throughout, this is luxury group accommodation for 14 guests plus 1 more at an extra charge. There are 6 ensuite bedrooms, a private indoor pool, table football, a games area with a pool table, and a huge open plan living space where you can all gather together to share special moments, to chat and reconnect. Outside there's a large patio for those sunnier days, outdoor table tennis, a trampoline and play area. The lodge is furnished in neutral tones with playful splashes of colour; it feels calm and relaxing, helping you to slip gently into unwind mode as soon as you arrive. The small site is tucked away behind the trees and has been carefully designed so that each lodge faces away from the others and is private with its own parking. Crowcombe has something for all ages which is why it's a superb choice for big family holidays, days away with friends, family celebrations, low-key hen weekends and self-catering corporate breaks.

On the doorstep are the beautiful Quantock Hills; venture out into the fresh air and explore and you'll see why it's a designated AONB. Climb the sun dappled coombes to the rufty-tufty bracken clad heaths with views that stretch for miles to Exmoor and across the Bristol Channel to Wales. The hills are great for horse riding or mountain biking as well as walks, or for family days out with a picnic; go to the nature reserve at Fyne Court where there are trails to follow and ponds to dip your nets in. Along the Somerset coast you'll find wild beaches with striated cliffs, wave cut platforms and waterfalls; feel the force of the elements at East Quantoxhead, hunt for fossils at Kilve and then wander back up the lane to The Chantry Tea Gardens to inspect your finds. Make a summit bid at Cothelstone Hill or Wills Neck, look out for red deer feeding, discover timeless villages tucked away in the quiet lanes, stop at a cosy country inn for a bite to eat. The Carew Arms at Crowcombe, The Bicknoller Inn and closer to home The Farmers Arms at Combe Florey, are all recommended.

For days out head to Bishops Lydeard and board the steam train with The West Somerset Railway, then pootle through the glorious countryside to the seaside; alight at Blue Anchor or Minehead for an afternoon on the sands, sit and watch the world go by at Watchet, or stop at Dunster and visit the medieval castle that stands high on the hill above the village. Get up early and set off for a day of adventure in Exmoor National Park, a land of dramatic cliff tops, lush river valleys and heather clad moors where wild ponies graze. Have a cream tea at Watersmeet, cross the ancient clapper bridge at Tarr Steps, while away a few hours in the picturesque village of Porlock or at Selworthy where heavy thatched cottages stand around the green. Soak up the tranquillity of Cleeve Abbey, see how cider is made and stroll through the orchards at Sheppy's cider, take the young 'uns to Tropiquaria Wildlife Park or Doniford Farm Park.

It's not far to Taunton, Somerset's county town; browse the shops, have lunch in one of the many independent pubs, cafes or restaurants, play on the greens and the high ropes at Vivary Golf and Adventure Course. Head back to Crowcombe for an evening spent watching your favourite movie, playing games or splashing in the pool. Crowcombe is a place to stay, a place to enjoy, for holidays and short breaks any time of year.
