There’s a strong trend for big family holidays these days, an opportunity to get together with friends and their children or for multi-generational large group stays. Our big holiday houses and cottages sleep 8-30 people and are perfect for either – for a get away for a few younger families or for a week or weekend celebrating a special occasion with brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, cousins and grandparents. We’ve got all the facilities you need to keep people of all ages entertained, and as most of our amazing properties are dog friendly you can even bring the family pooch.
Have a look at our portfolio and you’ll see what we mean; whether you want a big country house, a luxury holiday lodge, a stunning barn conversion, or an English country cottage, you’ll find something that’s just right. We’ve even got an impressive town house for 12 in Worcester for city breaks, and a beautiful chateau in France that sleeps 15.
The majority of our large group holiday homes are situated in the countryside so you’ll have plenty of peace and quiet, and no shortage of things to see and do in the local area. You’ll find family attractions, cosy rustic pubs and walks right on the doorstep through fields and woodlands and winding country lanes. If anyone fancies a bit of pampering we’ve got recommended mobile therapists to visit you, if you want a celebratory feast cooked in-house we have tried and tested professional caterers; we’ve thought of everything.
There are swimming pools, hot tubs, games rooms, play areas, and sometimes even saunas and steam rooms, and something that’s really catching on is the cosy Scandinavian style BBQ lodges where you can all gather together and toast marshmallows, telling stories beneath the twinkly lights. We’ll put out cots, toddlers beds, high chairs and stairgates for you at no extra charge, and a lot of the gardens are secure with plenty of space for the littl’uns to run around and let off steam – we all know that happy children equals happy parents, making your big family holiday more relaxing. We appreciate that the older generations might need their own space and if that’s the case, choose one of our properties with an annexe or an area that’s more self-contained which allows for privacy and quiet time – see Holemoor Stables, Quantock Barns and Hurstone.
Let’s take a closer look at just some of the fantastic Group Stays properties that provide the perfect self-catering accommodation for large family groups. In Somerset there are five luxury timber-clad lodges close to the Quantock Hills, each with its own private indoor pool, all self-contained and sleeping 12-14 people – see Thorncombe or also sleeping 14, Ham Bottom tucked away near the bustling town of Wellington. On the glorious Somerset Levels we have Riverside, sleeping 12, on the banks of the River Tone, and for up to 14 guests, Walnut Arbour, which is like a very private spa with a pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room. Bossington Hall with commanding views over Exmoor sleeps 30, as does Beaverbrook 30, hidden away in a sleepy hamlet close to the Devon/Dorset borders.
In Devon, Berry House is a gorgeous country house that sleeps 16, with an indoor pool and games room; watch deer feeding and take in the far reaching views over the valley; Wayside is a more modern retreat for 13 guests, with a covered pool, hot tub, sauna and games room, and standing in an attractive village on the Blackdown Hills, Culmbridge House sleeps 12 and has an indoor pool, sauna and BBQ lodge. Close to the Forest of Dean, Viney Hill Country House has snooze space for up to 18 family members, a swimming pool and a games room, and Whitehaven also has an indoor pool and games room and sleeps 12.
Check out The Plough in Wiltshire; it sleeps up to 29 people and is just a few miles from Bath, whilst House on the Hill can sleep 24 and is located in the beautiful Chalk Valley AONB. The Benches on the outskirts of Monmouth is right on the banks of the River Wye and has a pool, hot tub, sauna and games room and is well situated for outdoor pursuits in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. Close to Bristol, Henfield Barn is a dream of a rural retreat for big family holidays, with a swimming pool, jacuzzi, spa facilities and landscaped garden.
Phew! There’s plenty more of course, so it’s just a case of deciding what’s right for you and when you want to go. Our large group holiday accommodation is perfect year round, whether it’s for a whole week or a 2 or 3 night weekend. Come in February or October half term, or in September when the roads are quieter but the attractions are still open; come for Christmas or New Year. Whenever you come, it’ll be amazing, you’ll have a wonderful time making memories to take home and treasure.
