Whitehaven is set in an enviable location, being on the eastern fringes of the Forest of Dean and close to the beautiful Wye Valley. Once a simple country cottage, the property has been sympathetically renovated and extended to provide spacious holiday accommodation for up to 12 people. There's a private indoor pool, a games room with a pool table and table football, and a play area and trampoline for the tinies. The 1 acre grounds are part walled and edged by woodland to one side; sit in the outdoor dining pavilion and listen to the bird song, before you the glorious Gloucestershire countryside rolls on for miles. Whitehaven is a wonderful place to stay for a spell of luxury togetherness with your favourite people; come for big family holidays and celebrations and for exclusive corporate breaks.

Just a stone's throw away is the Forest of Dean where you can explore the woodlands and attractions. For art with a difference follow the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail and round it off with a picnic at Mallards Pike Lake; take the family to Clearwell Caves or Hope Colliery for a true underground experience - a delight when the caverns are dressed for Halloween or Christmas. Have fun in the maze at Puzzlewood, get close to hawks and owls at the International Centre for Birds of Prey, see the fascinating life cycles of tropical butterflies at Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo.

Hark back to the golden age of steam on the Dean Forest Railway or take the little ones for a ride on the miniature train at Perrygrove Railway, rounded off with a picnic at Foxy Hollow. If you're the adventurous types you'll find heaps to do; there are walking trails to follow, or you can hire bikes from Pedalabikeaway and take to the cycle tracks. Go canoeing, abseiling or rock climbing with Wyedean Canoe & Adventure Centre, whizz through the treetops on the high ropes course at Go Ape Forest of Dean. If you fancy a day's sightseeing head to Cheltenham, an elegant spa town that's within easy reach, to Gloucester where you can see the Gothic cathedral with its royal tombs, or to Bristol where a well-planned trip allows time for a visit to We the Curious and SS Great Britain at the lively harbourside, and for discovering the charm of Clifton Village.

But sometimes the simple pleasures are the best, so get in the car and pootle around the lanes to find a country pub for lunch, or drive up to Symonds Yat where the views are incredible and you may be lucky enough to spot the peregrine falcons that nest in the cliffs high above the River Wye. Take in the tranquillity and centuries of history at Tintern Abbey, or closer to home, at St Briavels Castle in the local town of Lydney. Have a stroll around the little harbour whilst you're there and from April to June see the spectacular floral displays and the Roman temple complex at Lydney Park Spring Gardens. And if that's all you want to do, stick to the immediate area, we get that, because that way you'll have more time to spend together at Whitehaven just completely relaxing, winding down and making memories to last a lifetime.

NB: Due to planning restrictions this property is unable to accept single sex groups.

"10/10 - As we were only staying for three nights we made use of the facilities in the property. The swimming pool was excellent for the grandchildren. Greatly enjoyed by all. We would have all liked to stay longer. A very clean and well kept property."
