Hunky-Dory is a stone's throw from the village of Chapmanslade and the market towns of Warminster, Westbury and Frome are all close by; London is about an hour by train, Bath can be reached in 30 minutes. Neighbouring Hunky-Dory is the Longleat Estate with its safari park and attractions; spend the day there, drive through the enclosures, stroll around the house and gardens, take the kids to the main square where there's lots to see and do. Take a trip to Bath to see the Roman Baths and the magnificent abbey, go to Prior Park and follow the Bath Skyline Walk, while away a couple of hours at the American Museum or the Fashion Museum.

If you like quirky, you'll like Frome, especially when the Frome Independent market is on and the town centre comes alive with a merry throng browsing the stalls; there's street food, live entertainment, and all manner of vintage and artisan wares. Check out Glastonbury too, which has a New Age vibe throughout the town; visit the magical Chalice Well, wander up to the Tor for panoramic views of Somerset. Pootle up to Bradford-on-Avon, wander down to the canal basin and have a ride on a narrowboat along the Kennet & Avon; hire canoes and take to the water, or hire bikes and cycle along the towpath to Avoncliff Aquaduct. Take a picnic and spread your tartan rug on the grass by the medieval Tithe Barn, or go to one of the many excellent places to eat in the town.

If you like historic grandeur and beautiful gardens, Stourhead is a must, especially in the autumn when the glorious colours are reflected in the lakes. If art is your thing, head to Bruton and have a mooch round the gallery at Hauser & Wirth then amble up to the dovecote on the hill. See Megalithic Stonehenge, and the ancient stone circles at Avebury; take a family trip to Lacock Abbey where Harry Potter was filmed.

There's so much to do round these parts, but you might not feel the need to go anywhere at all because at Hunky-Dory you've got more than enough to keep you smiling.
