Just a short drive from Bath and 2 hours from London, The Plough has seen an incredible transformation from redundant country pub to supersize group accommodation for holidays and short breaks in the Wiltshire countryside. Original features meet stylish contemporary interiors, bringing charm and quirkiness to this enormous holiday house. 11 ensuite bedrooms sleep 27 people, with room for 2 more at an extra charge per person; there's a large and well-equipped kitchen, a games room with the original bar and a pool table, and a huge living/dining room. Outside on the patio there's a leafy arbour for alfresco dining, lawns to play on, and a covered hot tub for year-round use. The Plough is a great choice for holidays for 3-4 families or multi-generations, for peaceful celebrations, sophisticated hen weekends and self-catering corporate breaks.

If days out are on the agenda for your holiday in the UK, you'll find heaps to see and do round these parts. Bradford on Avon is less than two miles away and is a very charming town, rather like a scaled down version of Bath with lots of Georgian architecture and interesting independent shops. Go and see the curious Saxon church in the middle of town, visit the museum, wander down to the Kennet & Avon Canal where you can hire bikes and cycle along the towpath to Avoncliff Aquaduct. Get up early and go to the Lock Inn for a famous Boatman's Breakfasts, then take a narrowboat trip along the waterway, looking out for wildlife as you glide along. The town certainly isn't short on good places to eat, there are several - among them The Bunch of Grapes, Timbrells Yard and the Ale, Pie & Cider House.

A trip to Bath is a must; it's only 6 miles away and there is so much to see and do there. Take your pick of art galleries and museums, including the more unusual American Museum and the Fashion Museum. Go to Bath Abbey and have a tour of the tower, have a break from the city with a stroll around Prior Park, see the sights on the Bath Skyline Walk. Highlights are the Roman Baths, Pulteney Bridge with its horseshoe weir, and the Royal Crescent, and something you must do is have Bath Buns at Sally Lunns historic eating house (when in Rome...).

Take the little ones to Hope Nature Centre where they can see the animals and let off steam in the play area, or to Longleat Safari Park which isn't far at all. Spend a day in Bristol visiting attractions like We the Curious science museum, Bristol Aquarium and Brunel's flagship, SS Great Britain in its dry dock. If country houses and gardens appeal, you're in luck; book a guided tour of Great Chalfield or Westwood Manor, visit Ilford Manor Gardens, Dyrham Park, or venture a little further to Stourhead. You might want to make the most of the chance to see more of the well known places in the area - like Farleigh Hungerford Castle with its gruesome history, Lacock Abbey where Harry Potter was filmed, and the ancient stone circles at Stonehenge and Avebury.

The thing is, when you stay at The Plough you've got the perfect blend of plenty to see and do nearby and an amazing holiday house for your large group. It's perfect because it's the kind of luxury togetherness that's hard to beat; fun times will be had, discoveries made, memories piled high.

"10/10 - The house is absolutely stunning! Could not have asked for more. The service provided by sleeps 12 was spot on. Extremely helpful and the online booking portal very easy to use. Our interactions with the property owner have been fantastic, so helpful and accommodating. Really couldn't have asked for more other than an earlier check in but it is understandable why this could not have been accommodated. We only left the property for a few hours during our stay to go into Bath for lunch and a planned activity. However driving through Bradford on Avon, it looked beautiful and definately somewhere I'd look to explore in the future. "
