Our Houses in Wiltshire
Wonderful Wiltshire; easily reached from pretty much all over the UK and full of things to see and do for all ages. Much of the county is beautiful open countryside so it’s well suited to those who love peace and quiet, who like to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, but that’s not to say it’s without its attractions. You can have a family day out at Longleat Wildlife Park, or go and see world famous Stonehenge, Old Sarum Hill Fort or Avebury Stone Circle; explore Salisbury, where you can visit the majestic cathedral and stroll through the water meadows, or browse Mompesson House and laze on the grass in Cathedral Close. Smaller towns like Bradford-on-Avon, Castle Combe and Malmesbury all have their appeal and are good for a browse and a bite to eat. Take in the splendour of Stourhead House and Gardens, or Lacock Abbey, one of the filming locations for Wolf Hall, and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
If you want to stay off the beaten track you can explore the landscape in many ways; pootle about by car, get out on bikes or on horseback, put your walking boots on and discover the glory of the Chalke Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where you can walk for miles just enjoying the wide open countryside; look out for a cosy village pub to stop off at for refreshments. Spend unruffled hours fishing on the lakes and rivers, or playing golf; find a shady spot beneath the trees for a family picnic, doing nothing but relaxing – it’s what holidays in Wiltshire are all about.
