House on the Hill brings you supersized group accommodation, with 8 bedrooms sleeping 20 guests and room for 4 more at an extra charge per person. There’s a movie room, huge grounds and just a few steps from the door, a Mediterranean style courtyard with a swimming pool and a games room with a bar, pool table, table tennis and table football. This is a wonderful place to stay throughout the year for large family holidays, short breaks with friends and sophisticated hen weekends.

The setting is the unspoilt landscape of the Cranborne Chase AONB where Wiltshire and Dorset meet. The views stretch on and on across the fields and hills and at night the only light to be seen is at the top of Salisbury Cathedral, 10 miles away. Enjoy a world of your own with peace and quiet and birdsong; on the doorstep are footpaths taking you deep into the glorious countryside and within a short drive there are country pubs and family attractions.

Just a mile or so away is the picturesque village of Ebbesbourne Wake where you can tuck into good homemade pub food at The Horseshoe Inn. Close by is The Crown Inn at Alvediston, thatched and full of charm, with a Vintage & Various room to browse. You’ll find plenty of places to eat if you decide to venture over to Salisbury for a day out; visit the beautiful cathedral – it has the tallest spire in England and peregrine falcons nest in the tower. Soak up the maritime vibe at Southampton where the International Boat Show is held, see the interactive model of the Titanic at SeaCity Museum.

Shaftesbury is a lovely town to discover; browse the little shops, go and see the abbey, founded in AD 888, stroll up cobbled Gold Hill to see the charming cottages and staggering views across the Blackmore Vale. Amble around the lakes and follies at Stourhead, ablaze with colour in the autumn, discover the romantic ruins of Old Wardour Castle and the fascinating history of Old Sarum Iron Age Hill Fort. It’ll only take about half an hour to get to Stonehenge where you can see the world-famous Neolithic stone circle and prehistoric houses.

You could even spend a day on the beautiful Jurassic Coast at Durdle Door, where a natural stone arch juts out into the sea; pack a picnic and stroll up over the cliffs on the South West Coast Path to Lulworth Cove. If a day on the sands is more your thing, head over to Bournemouth; find your spot on the beach, make sandcastles, go for a swim.

Take a trip to the New Forest and pootle about exploring the pretty villages where you’ll see cattle and ponies roaming free; find out all about this beautiful part of the UK at The New Forest Visitor Centre in Lyndhurst. Take the kids to one of the many attractions at Beaulieu, or to Peppa Pig World, go and conquer your fear of heights on a Treetop Challenge at Go Ape Moors Valley.

There’s something for everyone in this neck of the woods – you can go cycling, fishing and if you like golf, you’ll find good clubs like Rushmore Golf Club and Salisbury & South Wilts Golf Club. At the end of a happy day out, gather together back at House on the Hill, take a dip in the pool or a mindful stroll around the grounds and round it off with drinks on the terraces as the sun slips slowly below the horizon. These are times you will always remember, there will be memories to treasure. Book today!
