Downstairs
Step into a wide hallway and to the left is the main kitchen, well-equipped, country style, like something out of a country house magazine. It leads through to the breakfast room and the dining room – a very lovely setting for any celebration feast. Then you’re back in the hall, where to the right is the study, one of 3 reception rooms; come and warm your toes by the fire after a walk in the hills. At the end of the hall is the main living room, The Purple Room, all light and airy and elegant; next to it is Bedroom 10 (Dove Room), leading onto the utility room, a lobby and a shower room.
You’ve got to love the interiors at Fern Manor; it’s got elegance, it’s got sophistication, it’s got glamour, and yet it has the homely vibe you need to help you relax into your holiday. Period features blend seamlessly with the mid-century and the modern, and with quirky touches; each room is a surprise.
Upstairs
On the first floor are Bedrooms 5-9 – 3 with ensuite shower or bathrooms, the other two sharing a bathroom. Also on this floor is the games room with a snooker table, a fascinating collection of sports memorabilia, and in case you’ve overdone it on the tennis court, a massage chair. Next to is The Green Living Room with Sky TV, a library and a small dining area. A lobby leads to the second kitchen, which means you don’t have to go downstairs if you’re feeling peckish.
Up on the second floor are Bedrooms 1-4; Bedroom 1 (Peacock Room) has an ensuite shower room, the rest have shared use of a bathroom.
Outside
Well, won’t you be spoilt – just wait ‘til you explore what’s outside! Have morning coffee at the front of the house, leisurely lunches in the barbecue area; amble down the garden, pause to play croquet, idle away the hours up on the roof terrace, soaking up the sunshine, lovin’ the views, perfecting your putting skills on the green.
There will be shrieks of delight from the play area, with toys and games, a treehouse, and for the young adventurers, a nature trail. At the end of the garden you can stage your own mini Wimbledon on the all-weather tennis court, when you down your rackets you can play footie or basketball with the kids.
And we’ve saved the best ‘til last - the spa hall! Oh yes, this is all yours and only yours for the whole of your stay. A heated pool, a hot tub, a sauna, changing rooms, a seating area, even a kitchenette. What a way to spend the time, the luxury of being together, and all this. Lucky, lucky you.
