Wonham House is a very special place to stay for your large group holiday in Devon, set in large private grounds high above the Exe valley. Head up the long sweeping drive and it’s like a world of your own, the peace and quiet, the seclusion.

Go through the stone porch into a long, wide hall where to the left is the kitchen; gorgeous colours, original wooden floor and well-equipped to cater for large groups. Next to this is the dining room evoking carefree days of country house grandeur with its original Parquet floor and chandeliers suspended from a ceiling carved with cherubs and roses. Light pours in through floor to ceiling windows, a long table sets the scene for happy celebration dinners, in front of the bay window there’s a baby grand piano.

Then there’s the snug; curl up and watch TV with the children, come back from a wintry walk in the country, gather round the fire with a tray of hot buttery toast. Next door is the drawing room, calm and restful with soft pink walls, enticing sofas and views over the valley. Across the hall a lobby leads to the utility room and to a stone staircase down to the basement; cosy up for a family film night in the soundproofed movie room, have interval drinks in the private bar.

In the middle of the hall a carved oak staircase leads to the first floor where bedrooms and bathrooms are in keeping with traditional country house style. Bedroom 1 has a super king bed, its own dressing room and an ensuite bathroom, Bedroom 2 has a super king bed and an ensuite bathroom, and Bedrooms 3 and 4 have king size beds and use of the family bathroom or the shower room just across the landing. Bedroom 5 has zip and link beds (super king or twin), and an ensuite shower room. Note that Bedrooms 1,7,8 and 9 can all accommodate extra guest beds - please see the Floor Plans for details.

The stairs continue past a beautiful stained-glass window to the second floor, to Bedrooms 6-9 and the games room. This floor is a later addition to the house, with mid-century-modern interiors and striking colours. The bedrooms all have zip and link beds (super king or twin) and ensuite shower rooms; to one end steps lead to an enormous games room where there's a pool table and table tennis, and sofas and beanbags to relax on.

The outside space is huge, with gardens to the front and sides of the house; paths meander round and about, there are lawns to play on, wooded areas and Victorian benches set into recesses in the wall on the lower terrace. Outside of the kitchen the patio makes a wonderful spot for coffee in the morning sunshine.

On the terrace at the West side of the house is the outdoor pool and hot tub; the pool is heated for year use from Easter to the end of October, the hot tub can be used year round. Idle the hours away enjoying every minute of your large group holiday; before you are the wooded hillsides, in the valley the River Exe slips contentedly along. Memories are waiting to be made.
