Once the stables and haylofts on a busy Somerset farm, Whimbrels Barton has seen a very considered re-invention and now offers fantastic group accommodation for 16 guests. It’s the perfect place to stay for big family holidays and special celebrations with your loved ones because the 8 bedrooms are arranged over 3 adjacent barns, so it’s easy if there are younger children or older folk who prefer an earlier bedtime. You get time to yourselves and time together; for some, that’s the best of both worlds.
When you arrive, first of all, go and see the huge open plan living/entertaining barn – it’s amazing! This is where you can all gather together to relax and unwind, and to dine. The exposed brick wall, the soaring timbers, the full height windows – it’s an extraordinary space, and it’s so stylish, with a wonderful balance of the contemporary, rustic and industrial. At one end is a fully equipped kitchen, in the middle there are big sofas to lounge on, at other end of the room, a handcrafted dining table seats 16 for happy meal times and converts for table tennis when not use. Imagine… a hearty cooked breakfast, a spread for lunch, a scrumptious celebration feast… Next to the kitchen there’s a utility room with a washing machine, and a loo.
The bedrooms are all in the other 3 barns which have been beautifully finished; the feels are very ‘hygge’ and the ambience is so welcoming. Bedrooms 1 and 2 are on the ground floor in Snipes Rest, both with zip and link beds and sharing a shower room. Upstairs there’s an open plan kitchen and living room with a wood-burner for the colder days.
Bedrooms 3 and 4 are next door in Curlews Halt and are also on the ground floor with zip and link beds and a shared shower room. Upstairs is the open plan kitchen and living room, also with a wood-burner to keep you toasty when it’s chilly out.
Bedrooms 5 and 6 are round the corner in Bean Goose Barn, on the ground floor, where there’s also a shower room and refreshment area with air hockey. Upstairs are Bedrooms 7 and 8, a bathroom and a large living room with a wood-burner. Bedrooms 5-7 have zip and link beds, Bedroom 8 has a king size bed; the zip and link beds at Whimbrels Barton can be arranged as super kings or twins (see Floor Plans).
Bean Goose Barn and the living/entertaining room open onto the garden where there’s a large patio with outdoor furniture and 2 barbecues, and the wood-fired hot tub; a private courtyard leads round to Curlews Halt and Snipes Rest which both have an outdoor bath just outside the door. Across the path there’s another lawned garden where the little ones will be squealing with delight bouncing on the trampoline.
