In the not-so-distant past Viney Hill Country House was a traditional farmhouse on the edge of the Forest of Dean; since then it’s undergone a very considered transformation and is now a fantastic large group holiday house with 8 bedrooms sleeping 16 people, and room for 2 more guests at no extra charge. The front porch leads into a hallway where to the left is the library with wood panelling and built-in book shelves, and to the right the games room where you can play pool and table football. Straight ahead in the hall, past the stairs, is the inner hall with the kitchen/dining room on the left. With a nod to the heritage of Viney Hill Country House, the kitchen is farmhouse style, a lovely big country kitchen, well-equipped for your holiday and for private caterers to work if you hire them to cook you a special birthday or anniversary feast. The dining area has elegant modern furniture which works well with the tongue and groove panelling and the original chunky beams.
Next to this, also accessed from the hall is a utility room with laundry facilities and a door to the rear patio – ideal for when you come back rosy cheeked from a walk in the woods with wet dogs and muddy boots. Left of the inner hall is a very spacious living room with sumptuous sofas, a big TV and a woodburner for extra warmth in the colder months.
Bedrooms 1 and 2 are on the second floor and have ensuite shower rooms and zip and link beds that can be arranged as super kings or twins. On the first floor there’s a family bathroom and Bedrooms 3-8, all with ensuite facilities; Bedrooms 3 and 4 have zip and link beds, and the rest have king size beds, with the exception of Bedroom 8 which has a small double. Bedrooms 5 and 7 are good rooms for families as they both have an extra guest bed.
There’s plenty of outdoor space, with lawns to play and picnic on, or if the weather’s not behaving itself, there’s a covered seating area on the patio at the back of the house, and a Scandinavian style BBQ lodge where you can sizzle sausages and toast marshmallows any time of year. There’s a play fort and trampoline for the little ones and a separate play area for the tinies; the icing on the cake is the covered heating pool, heated for year-round use during daylight hours.
