TIP-TOP - Devon

Tip-Top is a contemporary timber-clad house in a peaceful and private setting amidst the beautiful countryside of the Blackdown Hills in Devon. With snooze space for 10 guests in 5 ensuite bedrooms, and room for 2 more at no extra charge, this is a wonderful place to stay for any large family holiday or celebration. Interiors are sleek and stylish with all you need to keep everyone entertained; there's a private 4m swim spa, a large south facing terrace with a gas barbecue and pizza oven, a Scandinavian style BBQ lodge, firepit and a children's play area. Just a short stroll away is a pond where you can enjoy leisurely picnics, go boating, and even try your hand at fishing (children under 16 years of age must be supervised). With so much at Tip-Top to keep you smiling, we quite understand if you don't get round to going out anywhere whilst you're here. If you do get a bit of wanderlust you won't have to go far to find family attractions, country walks and good places to eat. Go for a stroll in the fields followed by a scrumptious pub lunch at The Ashill Inn or The Culm Valley Inn; pop down to the sleepy village of Culmstock to pick up a paper at The Strand Stores and stop by for coffee with homemade cake.

If the younger folk are desperate for a day out, head down to Crealy Theme Park & Resort where there are rides and entertainment galore; take them to Wildwood Escot or for fun on the obstacle course at The Bear Trail. Pootle over to the Jurassic Coast for a day at the seaside where you can try mackerel fishing or visit the Marine Aquarium at Lyme Regis. Have a ride on the old-fashioned tram at Seaton and then tuck into fish and chips on the beach, see blacksmiths at work in the old thatched Forge at Branscombe or ride around the landscaped gardens on a miniature steam train at Pecorama on the hilltop at Beer.

If historic houses are your thing, it's not far to Killerton or Knightshayes (both National Trust), or for gorgeous gardens, Hestercombe is an enchanting landscape of lakes and follies. Spend a day in Exeter, where you can see the awe-inspiring Gothic cathedral, take a tour of the medieval Underground Passages and browse the displays in the RAM Museum. Down at the quayside you can hire kayaks and have a paddle on the Exe estuary where the pace slows down, away from the hustle and bustle of the streets.

Closer to home you can get out in the hills on a hack with Sheldon Riding School, put the pedal to the metal at Mansell Raceway, or watch light aircraft come and go at Dunkeswell Airfield. There's so much to see and do, but like we said, you might well decide that you're not going anywhere; you're just going to stay put, happy in a world of your own at Tip-Top. And who can blame you? This is the kind of luxury togetherness that doesn't come along very often. Savour every moment.
