Hurstone

Once a Somerset farmhouse, now a gem of a country house that sleeps 14 people in 7 bedrooms. There’s a GAMES ROOM, HOT TUB, and gorgeous country views. 2 Z beds sleep 2 more children and an annexe sleeps an extra 2 guest, all charged extra. 2 cots at no extra charge.

Hurstone is a lovely wisteria-clad holiday house tucked away in the Somerset countryside just up the road from the tiny hamlet of Waterrow. The location is amazing, with far reaching views of verdant green countryside; the peace and quiet is hard to beat.

Hurstone has an undeniably homely feel, and you notice it as soon as you step in to the wide hallway, where off to the right is a sitting room leading through to a bigger drawing room. The centuries old character remains, blending harmoniously with the comforts and facilities of modern life; there are old oak beams, big inglenook fireplaces and period furnishings, and the views from almost every window are breath taking.

Straight ahead in the hall is a shower room and doors to a covered area; follow the hallway round to the left and you’ll find the games room with a half size snooker table, and to the dining room where there’s a long polished table for those happy celebration meals, and French doors that open onto the terrace. The kitchen is well equipped and has an adjoining utility room and scullery.

Upstairs are 7 bedrooms, 4 with en suite bathrooms and 1 a suite of two rooms that shares a bathroom. Of the bedrooms, 4 are doubles, 2 are twin rooms and 1 can have either a superking or twin beds. All are beautifully furnished in a more traditional style, so it’s very Enid Blyton in a way, like going to stay at your favourite Great Aunt’s house in the country. Two Z-beds for children are available at an extra cost each, and there is an annexe room that can sleep an extra 2 guests (additional charge) in a double bed and has its own wet room.

Out the front are rolling lawns and the terrace that runs the length of the house; perfect for afternoon tea, alfresco lunches and evening barbecues. In the courtyard at the back of the house there’s a hot tub where you can sit back and relax beneath starry skies or watch fluffy white clouds floating by. In the field there’s a summer house with a wooden veranda; views over the farmland, peace and quiet – perfect.
