Just up the road is the sleepy village of Chapmanslade where you can go for a leisurely lunch at the local pub; within a few miles are the market towns of Westbury, Warminster and Frome. Go to Frome when the independent market is on, soak up the lively atmosphere as you wander the stalls with local produce, arts and crafts, vintage wares and street food.

Bath is only a short drive away; spend the day sightseeing; visit the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey and The Royal Crescent, do the Bath Skyline Walk and browse the galleries and museums. Bradford-on-Avon is like a mini version of Bath, with beautiful Georgian houses built into the hillside; wander down to the canal basin, take a narrowboat ride along the Kennet & Avon or hire kayaks from The Towpath Trail Hire Centre. Soak up the new age vibe in Glastonbury with a visit to the enchanting Chalice Well or a stroll up the Tor where the views across the landscape are incredible.

Head over to Stourhead, a wonderful sight in the autumn when the glorious colours are reflected in the lakes; take a day trip to Stonehenge, Avebury stone circle, and Lacock Abbey for a big helping of history, or if art is your thing go to see the latest exhibitions at Hauser & Wirth at Bruton. England's smallest city, Wells is less than an hour away and with its majestic cathedral and medieval Bishop's Palace, is well worth a visit.
