HAYDAYS - Devon

Set within the rolling countryside of the Culm Valley in Devon, Haydays is a substantial modern holiday house that sleeps 14 people in 5 spacious bedrooms. Haydays is just a stone's throw away from the Mid Devon town of Cullompton, the M5 is within a short drive and the local area is packed with things to see and do. Cullompton is a historic market town with supermarkets, independent shops, a regular pannier market and a farmer's market. Go and have a browse around, take your basket and fill it with bountiful produce that's been made, grown or raised locally.

Just a few miles away in Tiverton you can walk and cycle along the towpath of the Grand Western Canal, or sit back for a leisurely ride on one of the few horse-drawn barges left in the country. Come back for cream tea at The Canal Tea Rooms & Garden or a drink on board the floating Ducks Ditty Café Bar. Exeter is only 20 minutes away and is great for a day out exploring the city. Take the kids to the RAM Museum to meet Gerald the Giraffe and see the painted coffin of an Egyptian Mummy, see the glorious Gothic cathedral or have a tour of the medieval Underground Passages. Down at the Quay you can have fun at Clip n Climb or go paddleboarding on the canal.

If you have a thing for history and gorgeous gardens, you'll love Kia-Ora Farm and Gardens, or Killerton House and Knightshayes, with activities and acres of parkland to stroll in. Have an exciting family day out at Crealy Theme Park & Resort, spot red squirrels and whizz along the zip wire at Wildwood Escot, or spend the day playing on the beach at Exmouth or Sidmouth. Closer to home there's a whole lot of muddy fun to be had at The Bear Trail; grab yourselves an exclusive falconry experience at Yarak Bird of Prey Centre or let your inner daredevil loose at Land Rover Experience West Country. If the great outdoors is calling, get out into the Blackdown Hills to explore or head down to the Haldon Forest Park for Go Segway and Go-Ape. Exmoor National Park is also within easy reach and makes for a wonderful day of discovery; see the rolling hills, the wooded combes and the heather-strewn moors where wild ponies and red deer feed.

You might not want to go anywhere, you might just want to stay put having a fabulous time at Haydays, but at least squeeze in a lazy lunch at a country pub because that's par for the course when you're on holiday in the West Country. The Ashill Inn, The Merry Harriers and The Culm Valley Inn are all good; for something more fancy go to The Pig at Combe or try The Bakehouse in Cullompton. There is so much that's good in this part of Devon, come and enjoy a holiday or short break and the luxury of being together.
