Once you turn onto the private track that leads to Blushings Barn you’ll feel your holiday begin; park up, have a good stretch and go on through the gate. This lovingly transformed barn sleeps 12 guests in 6 ensuite bedrooms, and with a private indoor pool, hot tub, games room and play area it has something for all ages, making it a winner for large group family holidays in Somerset. With plenty to keep you occupied you probably won’t even feel the need to go out anywhere.
Floor to ceiling glass doors open into an enormous open plan living space where hefty timbers soar to the roof and light floods in through the big skylight above the dining table – it’s wonderful at night when the stars are out and there’s a big old moon shining down. To the right is the kitchen, Shaker style and well-equipped to take any stress out of catering for 12 people. At the other end of the room commodious sofas await you, put your feet up, have a glass of wine. This is such a great space for getting together, for catching up, reconnecting; Blushings Barn was made for good times like this, the laughter and chatter of happy people filling the room, drifting up to the highest corners. Straight ahead of the seating area there’s a drawing room/games room with big fat sofas and a woodburner to greet you; in the middle there’s a pool table, to the end, more sofas and table football. Stairs climb to a mezzanine where the youngsters can plug their games consoles into the TV, or you can nab it for a quiet chat or a read; this doubles up as extra snooze space for 1 more guest on a sofa bed (great for a teenager) at an additional charge.
Also off the living space there’s a utility room with laundry facilities, and Bedrooms 1-3; Bedroom 1 has an ensuite bathroom with a bath and overhead shower, Bedrooms 2 and 3 both have ensuite wet rooms. On the first floor a wide mezzanine landing overlooks the living space; off this are Bedrooms 4-6. Bedroom 4 has an ensuite bathroom with an overhead shower, Bedroom 5 has an ensuite wet room and Bedroom 6 has its own shower room. All bedrooms at Blushings Barn have zip and link beds that can be arranged as super kings or twins.
Outside are landscaped gardens with lawns, a patio with outdoor furniture and a barbecue, and a play area for the little ones. Opposite the house is the timber clad pool house with a changing room, showers and a loo. Just outside on the patio is the hot tub where you can soak your troubles away beneath a canopy of stars. And that’s what it’s all about, letting go, enjoying every minute of your large group holiday.
