Winding country lanes lead you to Babblebrook, over a little bridge and into the drive; this is such a special place to stay - so peaceful and so close to nature. If you wanted to unwind away from the stresses of modern life, this is perfect. 5 bedrooms sleep 10 and there’s room for 2 extra guest beds for children aged 12 years or under at no additional charge. There’s a games room and out on the veranda, a hot tub. The large gardens are a big feature of this beautiful holiday house, with lawns and trees and the Little Dart River running along the boundary; to either side are orchards, full of apple blossom in the springtime.

Go in through the hall to a large L-shaped open-plan kitchen, dining and living room. The style is country-modern with a well-equipped kitchen, a long wooden table for happy holiday dinner times and celebration feasts, and sofas to curl up on. In the summer, leave the French doors open and let the fresh country air drift in, step out onto the veranda where indoors meets outdoors; it runs the whole length of the house and is such a wonderful spot for relaxing, for lazy barbecues and quietly chatting into the night as you soak beneath the stars in the hot tub. In the colder months, come back and light the wood-burner after a walk through Buzzards Woodland, sit close and warm your toes.

Off left of the open-plan living space there’s a conservatory that opens onto the garden; to the right is the living room where a big L-shaped sofa beckons you to put your feet up and watch TV, to play games, or read a story to the little ones. If you need to touch base with work, the desk by the window is one of the best home offices you could wish for.

Upstairs the bedrooms are classic country style, and so restful; Bedrooms 1 and 3 have super king beds, Bedroom 2 has a king size double, and Bedrooms 4 and 5 are twin rooms. All have use of two shower rooms or a family bathroom on the same floor.

The garden catches the sun nearly all day long, so if you’re hankering after one of those good old-fashioned holidays in the country, you’ll adore Babblebrook. At the front of the house in a separate building, the games room has a pool table and table football, so the younger folk will enjoy hanging out there. What’s great is to spend time together in the gardens where little paths meander through the trees and you can play croquet on the lawn or have a picnic on the riverbank. When evening comes, go to the orchard, to sit around the firepit toasting marshmallows as the stars come out. It’s the little things that go a long way towards the most wonderful memories and there are plenty to be made here. It’s a little piece of heaven in Devon – book today!
