There’s something very special about Tides Reach, maybe it’s the setting, the coastal light, and the wonderful homely interiors, all coming together to make the perfect place to stay for large group holidays, weekends away with friends, and peaceful family celebrations in the West Country. At the end of a private lane, the house stands above the sea wall overlooking the Severn Estuary in Portishead; the views stretch over to the Black Mountains in Wales, the sunsets are spectacular.

Arranged over 4 floors, Tides Reach has 7 bedrooms to sleep 15 guests, there’s a games room and in the garden where the tide gently laps the wall, there’s a hot tub. It’s a great choice if anyone in your group is less able bodied as the whole house is accessible, with a lift to all levels and access friendly showering facilities.

Portishead town centre is just a 5 minute stroll away; very much on the up, with a laid-back cosmopolitan vibe, the high street has mostly independent shops and the marina is lined with cafes and restaurants where you can sit outside and watch the comings and goings. There’s even a purpose-built crabbing pontoon! Also close to the house are the Lake Grounds where you can have a swim in the open air pool, stroll around the boating lake and feed the ducks, hire rowing boats in the summer, take the little ones to the play area and treat yourselves to a bun in the café.

The Severn estuary isn’t safe for swimming – the currents are very strong and the racing tides are the second fastest in the world, but it’s still nice to idle away a couple of hours on Sugar Loaf Beach, a quiet cove with a backdrop of low cliffs and foliage; wear your sensible shoes and amble along the coastal path to the lighthouse at Battery Point.

Pootle over to Clevedon beach and take a walk along the historic pier; right at the end is the Pagoda Café where you can have lunch with a view of the sea. For more traditional days at the seaside, Weston-Super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea are within easy reach.

Another good thing about Tides Reach is that the access is good from other parts of the country – the M5 is a short drive away and Bristol Airport can be reached in an hour. Bristol isn’t far at all, so head off for a day in the city, taking in the sights and sounds; go and see the cathedral, explore elegant Clifton Village and the Downs, seek out those lovely tucked away places, like the Arts Quarter at Christmas Steps and the covered St Nicholas Market. Down at the harbour there’s plenty to do; visit Brunel’s flagship, SS Great Britain or get close to marine life at Bristol Aquarium. If you like shopping, Cabot Circus and Cribbs Causeway will suit you well, if animals are more your thing, you’ll love Bristol Zoo Project.

Maybe you’d like to visit Bath for a day, to see the highlights of this beautiful city – the Royal Crescent, Pulteney Bridge, the magnificent Bath Abbey, the Roman Baths and countless museums and galleries. The adventurous can go paddleboarding down the River Avon, book lovers can go to the Jane Austen Centre and have Tea With Mr Darcy.

You’ll find several attractions nearby that are well worth a visit; take a jaunt down memory lane at Oakham Treasures, go and say hello to the 100+ species of animals at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, see the dinosaurs at Avon Valley Adventure & Wildlife Park, take in the opulence of Tyntesfield (NT) and the beautiful gardens.

Whoever you’re with and whatever you do, amazing memories will be made. Tides Reach is so much more than a place to stay; it’s a place to unwind, to enjoy and to love. Book today!
