Shires used to be the wagon shed on a working farm but now it’s been skilfully transformed into a stunning holiday home for large groups. Accessibility has been at the forefront during the conversion, with level flooring throughout the ground floor, removable hoists and a lift to the sun terrace.
You enter Shires via the games room and continue round to the snug and the huge open plan kitchen-diner, flooded with light from the floor to ceiling windows; to one end is the fully equipped kitchen and to the other a bespoke dining table seating 14.
Bedrooms 4 and 5 are on the ground floor, offering a very good set up for the less able bodied. Bedroom 4 is fully accessible and can have an elevating bed if required (otherwise, all bedrooms have zip and link beds that can be arranged as superkings or twins), and a hoist if required; the en suite wet room is designed for carers to assist with bathing. Bedroom 5 has a built-in intercom to Bedroom 4, so this is where a primary carer would sleep.
The cinema room has surround sound, Sky Q TV, a games console and DVD player, and next to it is a utility room with a washer and dryer, and a door out to the spa hall - and wow! There’s a heated infinity pool (an even 1.2m deep), a sunken hot tub, sauna, WC/changing rooms and shower. This has been designed so that a hoist can be used to lower patient and caregiver into the hot tub and pool, so no one misses out. Bi-fold doors pull right back in front of the hot tub so you can have that open air feel if you want to.
Bedrooms 1-3 are on the first floor, all with French doors opening onto the sun terrace. Bedroom 1 has an en suite shower room, whilst Bedrooms 2 and 3 shared a good sized bathroom. Another staircase leads from the ground floor to Bedroom 6 which can sleep 4 (2 pull-out beds are available at an extra charge per person) and has an en suite shower room.
Outside there’s a large patio and a green area for year round use; the garden covers half an acre and has play equipment and a BBQ lodge, so plenty of room for the young 'uns to run about and let off steam. The sun terrace is a lovely spot for alfresco lunches or morning coffee; peace and quiet and wide open views over glorious East Devon countryside.
