Once the wagon shed on a working farm, Shires has undergone an incredible transformation to offer luxury group accommodation for 12 guests, with room for 2 more at an extra charge. Accessibility is at the forefront, with level flooring throughout the ground floor, a lift to the sun terrace, and an elevating bed and hoists available. With a games room, movie room, BBQ lodge, play equipment and a spa hall with a pool, hot tub and sauna, this is a holiday house with something for all ages.

Enter via the games room where there’s a pool table, to the right is the snug; put your feet up, have a quiet chat, play games or table football. Continue through to the light filled kitchen/dining room where to one end there’s a very swish kitchen, and to the other a long dining table. Full height doors give you an outlook of the gardens and the Devon countryside; when it’s warm, open them wide and let the sunshine in. Round to the right of the dining area is the movie room so be sure to bring popcorn for a family film night; next to it there’s a utility room with laundry facilities.

In the snug stairs take you to Bedrooms 1-3; Bedroom 1 has an ensuite shower room, Bedrooms 2 and 3 share a shower room at the end of the landing. All have doors opening onto the south facing roof terrace, a great spot to catch the sun and admire the far-reaching views. Bedrooms 4 and 5 are on the ground floor; all the beds at Shires are zip and link (super king or twin) but an elevating bed and a hoist are available for Bedroom 4. This room is fully accessible with the ensuite wet room designed for caregivers to assist with bathing. In this scenario Bedroom 5, with an ensuite shower room, is ideal for caregivers as there is a built-in intercom to Bedroom 4. From the kitchen/dining room stairs lead to Bedroom 6, a large room with an ensuite shower room and space for 2 extra guest beds, charged per person.

From the movie room a lockable door leads to the spa hall where there’s a heated infinity pool, a ground level hot tub, sauna, changing rooms, shower and WC. When the sun has got his hat on you can pull the bi-fold doors right back to add to those happy holiday feels. A hoist can be requested enabling the less able bodied to use the hot tub.

At the back of the house there’s a large patio with a barbecue and outdoor furniture; get the steaks sizzling, have a kick about on the lawn, watch the young ‘uns having fun in the play area. If the weather is misbehaving it doesn’t have to spoil your fun – just head for the Nordic style BBQ lodge; toast marshmallows, make hotdogs, swap stories, have a sing song. Relax, unwind, repeat, relax, unwind, repeat…that’s what Shires is all about.
