You’ll start to unwind as soon as you head up the drive to Berry House; once a farmhouse, this impressive Georgian holiday house stands in scenic organic farmland above the Batherm valley. Step into the wide hallway and off to the right is the elegant dining room, with heritage red walls, a wood-burning stove, and centrepiece, a long table that sets the scene perfectly for happy dinners and celebration feasts.

Next to the dining room is a games room with table football; step down into the farmhouse style kitchen where an old inglenook fireplace houses an Aga and a 19th century bread oven; if you’re not used to an Aga, there’s also an electric oven and a plug-in hob. Off the kitchen there’s a large boot room with laundry facilities and an extra fridge.

Left of the hall is the snug/TV room; like all the rooms along the front of the house, the views out over the valley are wonderful and you may even spot deer feeding in the fields. Next to the snug there’s a billiard room and on from this is the light and airy drawing room with a marble fireplace and sumptuous sofas.

Upstairs off a half landing is the family bathroom with a bath and separate shower, and Bedroom 5 which has a double and a single bed, and an ensuite shower room. Off the main landing are Bedrooms 1-4 and 6, all with zip and link beds (super king or twin). Bedroom 1 has an ensuite bathroom with a freestanding bath and separate shower, Bedrooms 4 and 6 have ensuite shower rooms, and Bedrooms 2 and 3 have shared use of the family bathroom just across the landing. The ambience at Berry House is very gentle, interiors are English country house with a mix of period style and modern.

Bedrooms 7 and 8 are at the end of the timber-clad pool house just a few steps from the main house - a good choice for those who like to turn in earlier or get up with the larks. Both sleep 2 and have ensuite shower rooms. The pool room was purpose-built to house the heated saltwater pool; light pours in through French doors that open onto a decking area.

Behind the pool house a Victorian barn has been thoughtfully restored and is now a cinema room with original theatre seating and a popcorn machine. There’s table tennis too, and with a sprung floor the room doubles up nicely as a yoga studio for wellness retreats.

At the front of the house wisteria climbs the walls, just outside the kitchen there’s outdoor furniture and a kamado cooker; across the turning circle between the clipped hedging and decorative urns steps take you down to a field which can be mown for rounders and picnics.
