You’ll start to unwind as soon as you step into the wide hallway at Berry House; off to the right there’s a huge walk-in pantry, and the elegant dining room, in classic period style with heritage red walls, a wood-burning stove, and centrepiece, a long table for you all to sit round for many a happy mealtime.
Both the dining room and the pantry lead through to the kitchen, which has a 4 oven Aga sitting snugly in an old inglenook, but don’t worry if you’re not used to cooking on a range – there’s an electric oven and hob as well. Off the kitchen is a boot room with laundry facilities and an extra fridge.
To the left of the hall is a cosy snug/TV and a billiard room where you can whip up a bit of in-house competition playing pool or table football. This leads through to the drawing room, light and airy, with plenty of sumptuous sofas and a gorgeous marble fireplace; imagine having afternoon tea here! Oh darling!
Upstairs off a long landing are six of the bedrooms and a big bathroom. The beds in Bedrooms 1-4, and 6 are all zip and link so they can be arranged as superkings or twins; in Bedroom 5 there’s a double bed and an extra single. Bedrooms 1 and 6 have en suite bathrooms, 4 and 5 have their own shower rooms, and 2 and 3 have shared use of the family bathroom across the landing.
Bedrooms 7 and 8 both have en suite shower rooms and can be found in the timber clad pool building just a few steps from the house. These rooms have French doors that open onto decking overlooking a fenced pond and the valley beyond. The pool room has floor to ceiling windows that allow the light to flood in and give those wonderful views.
The garden is in keeping with English country house style, with clipped box and yew hedging. The house sits amidst 200 acres of land that’s been in the owner’s family for over 50 years, and it offers great opportunities for wildlife spotting with a multitude of birdlife; you may even see red deer grazing within view. At the front of the house there’s a field which is kept mown, so you can all get out there and play rounders or French cricket. Sounds idyllic, doesn’t it? So what are you waiting for – book today!
