In this little corner of the world there’s plenty to discover, starting right on the doorstep; wander around the fields and along the old sunken lane through a tunnel of trees. Spot the little fairy doors along the way, find lucky 4 leaf clovers in the meadow; it’s all so idyllic. Stroll up the lane to The Globe Inn for lunch, pop into Wellington when the Farmer’s Market is on and fill your baskets with local delights galore, treat yourselves to a French Tartin at Odette’s Tea Room on the high street.

Venture down to Tiverton for an unhurried ride along the Grand Western Canal on a horse-drawn barge and when you get back go for a drink at Duck’s Ditty Floating Café Bar. Take the children to see the animals at Tropiquaria Wildlife Park, catch an old-fashioned steam train to the seaside with the West Somerset Railway or alight at Dunster to go and see the medieval castle that stands on the hill high above the village. Have a day of adventure in Exmoor National Park; discover the beautiful places, see wild ponies and red deer feeding. Walk up through the heathery moors to Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on the whole of Exmoor; the views across the landscape are panoramic. Amble along the river at Tarr Steps, stop for a cream tea in Dulverton, see the pretty thatched cottages at Selworthy.

Spend a day by the sea on the Jurassic Coast where the quiet coastal villages of Beer and Branscombe are charming; have a snack at the beach cafes, enjoy the sea views from the clifftops on the South West Coast Path. The young ‘uns will love Lyme Regis where they can visit Dinosaurland Fossil Museum and see the marine life in the little aquarium; charter a boat to go mackerel fishing, catch your supper to take home and cook on the barbecue.

There’s so much to see and so much to do, but we wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t feel the need, because it’s just so perfect at Wylder.
