The Benches is a very unique Italianette style villa on the edge of Monmouth with snooze space for 12 guests in 6 ensuite bedrooms. There's a games room, an outdoor heated pool from Easter to the end of October half term, a hot tub and sauna; the large gardens slope gently down to the banks of the River Wye, the views across the waters and beyond are stunning. Interiors are a very tasteful combination of Arts & Crafts style with original features and modern furnishings, with everything you need for your large group stay, whether it's a family holiday, a peaceful celebration with your nearest and dearest, or a self-catering corporate break.

It's just a 10 minute stroll into Monmouth where you'll find supermarkets and plenty of independent shops and places to eat. For authentic Italian food and a great atmosphere go to La Piccola Italia, for pub favourites and Welsh classics go to The Punch House in the middle of town. What's really nice is to go out of the gate at the bottom of the garden and stroll along the river to The Boat Inn where you can sit in the woodland garden when it's warm and indoors by the fire when it's not.

The Benches is within the Wye Valley AONB, so it's perfectly located for getting out into the fresh air to explore the local area and beyond. Head up into the hills above the town for a hike along Offa's Dyke, come back down through the woods to the Kymin, built in Georgian times as a meeting and banqueting house for gentlemen from the town; on a clear day, you'll have spectacular views that stretch over 10 counties. Go to Symonds Yat to spot peregrine falcons nesting in the cliffs and to hire paddleboards from Ye Olde Ferrie Inn for fun on the waters; one of the most relaxing things to do is to take a leisurely cruise through Symonds Yat gorge, taking in scenery that's achingly beautiful. Also over this way are the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo and The aMazing Hedge puzzle where you can have a giggle trying to find your way to the middle of the maze - imagine the shrieks of laughter from the young 'uns!

Pootle down through the Wye Valley to see the majestic ruins of Tintern Abbey, an absolute picture in the autumn with the backdrop of the glorious seasonal colours. If history is your thing you'll also like Raglan Castle, Caerwent Roman Town and Chepstow Castle. You'll find several good family attractions in the Forest of Dean where you can go underground at Clearwell Caves, solve conundrums in the forest at Puzzlewood, and ride an old-fashioned steam train on the Dean Forest Railway. The Brecon Beacons are another glorious outdoor world to explore with endless opportunities for walking, cycling and outdoor pursuits.

It's a little further but bookish types should head up to Hay on Wye to explore this unique 'book town' that straddles the borders of Wales and England; other towns worth a visit are Hereford where you can see the Mappi Mundi and Chained Library at the cathedral, and Ledbury where the streets are lined with half-timbered houses. Abergavenny has its charm too and has a reputation as a 'foodie' town, so you'll have a good choice of places to eat there, including the Michelin starred Walnut Tree just outside of town. There is no shortage of things to see and do round here but we suspect you'll be more than happy at The Benches lapping up the luxury togetherness, lazing the hours by the pool, enjoying those marvellous views. It's wonderful!

"10/10 - We had a lovely time and the home is just perfect. The views are outstanding, the grandchildren absolutely loved the pool, and the house is immaculate. My Mum enjoyed her birthday with the family in a beautiful place, she said it’s a real surprise because you arrive in the carpark and then as you approach the house the setting reveals itself, getting better and better all the time. Mandy and Elisabeth were great, making us feel very welcome. We would love to book up again sometime."
