Organising a self-catering hen weekend isn’t an easy task; you’ve got the job of finding the perfect property, in a great location, with enough to keep everyone happy. Sleeps12 large group holiday homes always tick the right boxes, and Shires is no exception.
For a start, there’s the location – tucked away down the lanes amidst beautiful East Devon countryside with views that stretch across the Yarty Valley to the hills beyond. Inside there’s everything you need – a big kitchen to cook in, a dining table to gather round for a celebratory feast, a cinema room to put your feet up and watch a movie, and a snug where you can sit and read or have a catch up chat. Outside, on the first floor there’s a big terrace accessed from Bedrooms 1-3, or from the lift just outside the kitchen, and wow, what a suntrap; a lovely spot to start the day with coffee, to have lunch, or evening drinks. At the back of the house is a huge garden with a BBQ lodge (think reindeer hides, twinkly lights, toasting marshmallows) and the most amazing spa hall with an infinity pool, sunken hot tub and sauna.
If you want to go out to eat you’ll find some excellent restaurants within easy reach; the Holt in Honiton is very good, and in Taunton there’s Augustus, The Willow Tree, or Brazz. If shopping is your thing you can be in Exeter in about half an hour and whilst you're there you could do a tour of the Underground Passages. If you fancy bracing sea air you can be on the East Devon coast in 20 minutes; go to Charmouth for a walk up over the cliffs, or to Lyme Regis where you can play crazy golf, have fish and chips on the beach, visit the Aquarium, or go out to sea on a mackerel fishing trip.
But if you don’t want to drive then plan ahead and book up one of our recommended professional caterers to come and cook for you, whether it’s canapes and champagne, afternoon tea, or a full-on feast. Take a look at our Extras page for details, and whilst you’re there check out the suppliers we work with who can come round and provide activities to make your hen weekend more memorable; try a dance class like Bollywood or Flamenco, or have a day of pampering from mobile therapists.
You know, there’s loads you can do; there are walks on the doorstep, historic houses you can visit, like Forde Abbey and Killerton House, you can go cider sampling at Lyme Bay Winery, take a Segway tour or swing on the high ropes at Go-Ape Haldon Forest, go ten pin bowling in Taunton, the list is endless.
Whatever you want to do, make it perfect, make it memorable; make it a hen weekend at Shires. Check now for availability – and start planning! It’ll be fabulous!
