Step in through the door at Pippinsands and you’ll know that you’ve made the right choice for your large group holiday in the country. This beautiful thatched cottage is so calm and welcoming, and full of character, with thick stone walls, flagstone floors and centuries old beams.
To the left is a snug, a lovely room for youngsters to hang out, or for a quiet read; beyond this is the main kitchen, big and sociable, with a walk-in pantry, and a homely 4 oven Aga for cooking and baking (there’s also an electric oven in the secondary kitchen).
Next to the kitchen is the dining room, overlooking the garden. In the middle of the room a sturdy handmade table seats all 14 guests; if you’ve got a big birthday to celebrate, or an anniversary, you’ll have a wonderful time sat around enjoying a scrumptious feast.
To the right of the hallway is a gorgeous drawing room with fireplaces at both ends, and in between, sofas and chairs that gently invite you to take your ease. Imagine coming back from an autumn walk and curling up in front of a roaring log fire; a tray of toast and tea to share, bliss.
The ground floor annex is very much part of the house; it has a good-sized kitchen, sitting room, bedroom and en suite wet room. If there are people in your party who like their own space, or elderly folk who turn in a bit earlier, this is the perfect solution. French doors open onto the garden from the bedroom; step out and take a big breath of fresh country air each morning – what a way to start the day.
Upstairs, off a long landing are Bedrooms 1 to 5. Bedroom 1 has its own shower room, and Bedrooms 2-4 share the family bathroom which has a P bath and overhead shower. Right down the end, Bedroom 5 makes a great room for a family as there are actually two bedrooms (a double and a twin) and an en suite shower room. Bedrooms 1-3 and 6 have zip and link beds that you can have arranged as superkings or twins.
In the garden there’s a hot tub where you can sit back, listen to the birdsong and watch squirrels scampering up the trees. You’ve also got use of the large shared grounds, a games room and a play area. Something for all ages; come and enjoy.
