Ilbeare is a lovely large group holiday home with a happy, homely ambience. It’s a very spacious house as you’ll see when you step into the reception hall; off to the right is the sitting room with French doors that open onto the terrace, inviting sofas, a huge TV, and a wood-burner for extra cosiness when it’s chilly.
To the left is the dining room, a sociable place with a long table that’s perfect for happy celebration dinners; there are enticing sofas, doors to the garden, and a big inglenook fireplace where there’s another wood-burner. Right next door is the well-equipped kitchen/breakfast room, where a spiral staircase takes you up to a small landing leading to two of the bedrooms. Beyond the kitchen is the utility room, and the boot room which has access to the back of the house - ideal for coming home with wet dogs and muddy boots after a romp in the country. The other side of the dining room is the games room with a pool table and X-box.
Upstairs are the 5 bedrooms and a family bathroom with a contemporary free standing bath; Bedroom 1 sleeps 4 and has an en suite shower room, Bedroom 2 sleeps 3 and has an en suite bathroom; Bedroom 3 sleeps 2 and shares a shower room with Bedroom 4, which sleeps 3, and Bedroom 5 is another double room with use of the main bathroom. The good thing is that all beds are zip and link so you can have superking or twin sleeping arrangements; for example, Bedroom 1 which sleeps 4 could be arranged as two superkings, a superking and two singles, or four singles – either way, it’s a great set up for a family or for four good friends.
What’s really special about Ilbeare are the idyllic 2 acre grounds with a small woodland, a croquet lawn, and a stream. There’s a play area and a fantastic Nordic style BBQ lodge where you can all get together and toast marshmallows even if it’s cold and rainy. On warmer days have alfresco lunches or evening barbecues on the terrace; slip off for a soak in the hot tub beneath the summer skies, or under a blanket of stars at night.
At the back of the house there’s a bike shed – very handy as this is good cycling country; not far away are the Quantock Hills which are great for mountain biking.
