Chateau La Chutelière dates back to the 15th century when it was built as a fortress during the One Hundred Years War; it’s been tastefully modernised and offers gorgeous large group holiday accommodation for 15 people, with everything you could possibly need for a truly relaxing stay. Interiors are eclectic and in keeping with the character of the chateau, with interesting artefacts collected from the owner’s travels around the world; the bedrooms are individually styled and the house is well-equipped with modern conveniences.
You enter on the ground floor where off the hallway is the dining room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a shared bathroom/wet room. Persia bedroom has a kingsize bed and is access friendly, whilst Bunk bedroom has six single bunk beds plus room for a toddler bed. This floor has a charming French-rustic feel with white limestone flags, and the kitchen gives you plenty of room for cooking and socialising.
The first floor has a wonderful 19th century heritage air with chestnut Parquet floors; a spacious hallway leads off to a playroom/sitting room, music room, library, loo, and three en suite bedrooms. India and Art Deco bedrooms both overlook the front gardens and have superking beds plus room for a further single bed and/or cot. China bedroom looks out over the poplar grove at the back of the house and has a double bed and room for a toddler bed or cot.
The top floor is a vast open-plan space where natural light pours in through the big double aspect and ceiling windows; this fabulous home cinema room has huge contemporary sofas and a user-friendly wood-burner. Tucked away in one of the towers there’s a small but well equipped kitchen, to save you going all the way down to the ground floor for refreshments.
Outside on the walled terrace there’s a heated saltwater swimming pool, garden furniture and a barbecue. To the front of the house is a coach house with a games room and gym, and further along the private road is the woodland. There are 23 acres of grounds at your disposal, private and peaceful, with stately trees on the lawn, a wisteria clad drawbridge over a dry moat, a shady poplar grove, and fruit gardens. Honestly, you don’t need to go anywhere, just spend the days strolling along the river or the canal, lingering on the bridge over the lavoir, picnicking on the lawn; it’s all so utterly beautiful.
