Days by the Sea
Croyde Bay in Devon is part of the beautiful Heritage Coastline in North Devon and is a favourite destination for families and surfers alike. Croyde village is a charming little hamlet of thatched cottages with many places to eat, buy gifts and hire beach equipment - including surfboards. Croyde Bay sits in between the neighbouring beaches of Saunton Sands, Putsborough and Woolacombe.
Mackerel fishing and deep sea fishing trips from Lyme Regis. Lyme Regis is at the heart of the Jurassic Coast. The ancient Cobb is the harbour and the whole area is very very picturesque at anytime of day and in any weather.
At the end of the Cobb you will find Harry May Boat Trips. Harry has two 24ft traditional wooden tripping boats that are used mainly for one hour mackerel fishing trips. The cost is £9 for adults and £6 for children, all tackle is included and everyone is shown how to catch a mackerel. From these trips thousands of fish have been caught by our visitors for barbecues on the beach and suppers at home.

Day at the Races?

Taunton Racecourse in Somerset, is England's youngest National Hunt racecourse and one of the most beautifully located racecourses in the country, with outstanding views across the Racecourse to the wooded slopes of the Blackdown Hills, yet only a few minutes drive from the M5 and the centre of Taunton.

Houses & Gardens
Originally built in Norman times, Dunster Castle was remodelled in the late 19th century for the Luttrell family, who lived here for 600 years. Only the 13th century gatehouse has survived from the original building. During the civil war, soldiers were garrisoned in the Leather Gallery. Contents include family pictures, mahogany furniture and an important series of leather hangings depicting the story of Anthony and Cleopatra. The fine oak staircase and plasterwork date from the 17th century. The terraced gardens house the National Collection of Strawberry Trees with pleasant walks beside the River Avill.

The gem of Killerton, beautiful year round, is the garden created by John Veitch, with rhododendrons, magnolias and rare trees surrounded by rolling Devon countryside
One of the finest surviving Gothic Revival houses, built in the lush landscape of mid Devon, Knightshayes Court is a rare example of the work of the eccentric and inspiring architect William Burges. Built for the grandson of pioneer lace-maker John Heathcoat in 1869, the house is an exciting architectural experience, with extraordinary 'medieval' romantic interiors, rich decoration and ceramics. The vast garden, which was the Heathcoat Amory family's great passion, is renowned for its rare trees, shrubs and seasonal colours. The restored and fully productive organic kitchen garden is a treat for everyone who enjoys local produce.
Haldon Forest Park is a great forest park. With trails for a short walk, or hire a bike and discover the cycle trails or join in the fun on the Play Trail. Alternatively sign up for the Go Ape high wire adventure course or if an experienced mountain biker, take to the Freer Ride Trails. Something for all the family.

The Devon and Somerset Gliding Club is the largest gliding club in the South West and has allowed its members to enjoy the magic of gliding for more than 50 years. We have a fleet of club gliders, good club facilities and a team of BGA qualified instructors who provide training to help new members let slip the surly bonds of earth and dance the skies on laughter-silvered wings. The club is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, weekends and on public holidays. We offer trial lessons and flying courses for the aspiring glider pilot, as well as conversion or advanced courses for experienced pilots. Whatever your skill level and flying experience, Devon and Somerset Gliding Club (DSGC) is the place for you, and the challenges and rewards keep on coming, whatever level you reach.
